Commenting on the upcoming exhibition, Dr. Mahmoud Hamed, Head of the Fine Arts Sector, said:
“We are celebrating together a visual and intellectual experience by the distinguished artist and academic, Dr. Hatem Shafie, who has succeeded in leaving a clear and luminous mark on the Egyptian and Arab visual arts scene. Bab Selim Hall is hosting his new exhibition, ‘12 Tone.’”
He added:
“We are not simply presenting traditional sculptural works; rather, we are encountering a comprehensive aesthetic and intellectual project. Dr. Hatem Shafie is known as one of the pioneers who introduced deconstructivism into the Egyptian and Arab context since the 1990s. He is an artist who works with material as a visual and historical reference, replacing mass with void in order to transform the sculptural form into a language of deconstruction and profound thought.”

Hamed emphasized that Shafie’s works consistently seek to destabilize the notion of a single, fixed meaning and to open the door wide to interpretation, as well as to aesthetic and intellectual tension.
The “12 Tone” exhibition is scheduled to run until September 12, 2026.
